How to Choose Your First Padel Racket

Your first padel racket doesn't need to be expensive — it needs to be forgiving. Three things matter more than brand or price: shape, weight, and balance.

Shape

Round-shaped rackets have the largest sweet spot and the most even balance, which makes them the most forgiving option for new players still learning where the ball meets the frame. Teardrop and diamond shapes shift weight toward the top of the racket for more power, but they punish off-center hits more — save those for once your technique is consistent.

Weight

Lighter rackets (350–360g) are easier to control through long rallies and put less strain on the elbow and wrist, which matters if you're playing multiple times a week while your technique is still developing. You can always move up in weight later.

Balance

Low or even balance keeps more weight toward the handle, making the racket faster to react with at the net. That reaction time matters more than raw power when you're new — most points at the beginner level are won on consistency, not smashes.

Our pick

Look for anything tagged Beginner or Control in our Beginner Rackets collection — round shape, sub-360g, even balance. It's a boring recipe, but it's the one that gets you playing your second season instead of nursing a tennis elbow.
